20th CENTURY WOMEN - 3/5

Whilst this film featured a decent script and some excellent performances -- young Lucas Jade Zumann matching the heralded Annette Bening in my opinion -- it just didn't excite me. It is possible this is down to a lack of drama...the conflict at the heart of the film, on the surface, sees a [spoilers[ bohemian mother reluctant to let her maturing son find his way in the world, when really it is she who is yet to mature (in the typical western sense of the term). And this, despite some strong ensemble work, failed to grip me.
